National Wildlife Parks in Kenya

 

* Masai Mara

The Masai Mara is well known for the part in the seasonal migration of zebra and wilderbeast from the Serengeti. You can see thousands of wildebeests and zebras moving across the vast plains. Game viewing is excellent all year round. The Masai Mara is one of the most renowned and finest animal-watching areas on planet Earth, with plenty of lions. * Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha

Lake Nakuru Naivasha - various animal and bird species. Nakuru is a World Heritage Site, famous for its vast numbers of pink flamingos. Naivasha has been described as a 'bewilderment of birds' with a population of up to 400 different varieties of species.

* Samburu

Relatively small game park by Kenyan standards, the Samburu-Buffalo Springs Game Reserve gives you a great opportunity to see a wide variety of game in a compact area of 330 sq km (127 sq miles). It is conveniently located on the Uaso Nyiro river north of Aberdare Forest.

*Tsavo National Park

This is not one park but two game parks, with east and west sections straddling the MombasaKenya-Nairobi Highway to the southeast of the capital and east of Amboseli.

*Aberdare National Park

This fairy beautilful scenic park is an amazing wonderland of cascading waterfalls, bamboo groves and sub-alpine plants. Visitors to this park can stay overnight at one of the tree lodges built on high elevation overlooking a floodlit waterhole and salt lick.

*Amboseli National Park

The Amboseli National Park is one of the Kenya ’s most photogenic parks. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain at over 19,300 feet, dominates the park. The star attractions, up in the park's hill country, are Kenya's undoubtedly largest herds of elephant, sometimes amazingly red, covered in the dust and mud of the region's soil.

*Central Island National Park

Now respectfully designated as a World Heritage Site, this island is reached by approx. 20-40 minute boat trip.

Kenya, along with Tanzania, is East Africa's prime country to enjoy African safari in the real sence of the word. There are many national parks to enjoy, all with their own peculiarities and some parks have animals you won't see anywhere else, like for example certain types of zebra or giraffe.

Masai Mara Game Reserve

Although it does not enjoy the privilege to be called a national park, that doesn't change anything at all to the experience of this most famous park in Kenya. The park is actually a continuation of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the yearly migration of hundreds of thousands of animals, manly gazelles, zebras and wildebeests, is something you will definitely enjoy a lot. The Masai Mara is also known for its relative easy to see large numbers of predators, like lion, cheetah, leopard and several smaller cats like the caracal, serval and jackall.

Amboseli National Park

You will see elephants for sure in this park and very close as well, guaranteed, just roaming freely along the roads in this park, which mainly protects swampy areas and savanna grasslands. The park is relatively small as teritory though and a few days here is probably enough before moving on to other impressive safari places in Kenya.

Tsavo National Park

This is the largest and the oldest of all national parks in Kenya, and actually consists of two national parks, named Tsavo West and Tsavo East with the main Mombasa-Nairobi road dividing the two. While Tsavo East is the biggest, Tsavo West is the one which enjoys the most scenic landscapes, higher animal densities and a beautiful and unique black rhino sanctuary. As a consequence Tsave West is more visited, but Tsavo East is equally good and you won't see many travellers here, which only adds to the experience. The park is also known for its lions which killed many workers working on the railway across the park in the early twentieth century.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Nakuru Wildlife Park is located in the central southern parts of Kenya, close to the city of Nakuru. The park is famous for its tens of thousands of flamingos nesting along the beautiful shores and the lake sometimes looks like one big pink mass. The park has been enlarged mainly to protect other animals as well, like the Rothschild giraffes and black rhinos who have settled here since several years. Other animals include predators like lion and leopard as well as several of antelope species and numerous other birds and is the right please for a wonderful unforgettable holidays in Kenya.
